2018 Corona Bali Protected | Rounds 1 & 2

With the first two rounds of the Corona Bali Protected officially in the books, the WSL Championship Tour has officially returned to Indo. The first three days have seen pumping six-to-eight foot surf at Keramas on Bali’s east coast, & the boys have been taking full advantage.

Griffin Colpainto came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, finding a long draining barrel followed by a huge air reverse leading to an 8.5 & a first heat win - putting him straight into Round 3.

“I’ve been waiting for a section to do an air like that all year,” Colapinto said. "I know I can get big scores with moves like that which gives me confidence. This wave offers you a lot of options -- I love this place.”

Reigning Bali Pro champ, Joel Parkinson, showed that experience pays off as he edged out Italo Ferreira & Keanu Asing & took the Heat 1 victory.

“It was definitely tricky to know what waves were going to be good out there,” Parkinson said. “I chose to ride a quad fin set up (four fins as opposed to three) as it’s what I rode here in 2013 and it worked well then for me - they’re just great in a barreling wave like this.”

While Frederico Morais & Italo Ferreira didn't win their first heats, both came up big in Round 2 and solidified their spots in the elimination Round 3.

With the onshore winds stopping the action early yesterday, the boys took matters into their own hands and Tai Buddha took them on a strike mission - Barrel Hunting at Uluwatu.

Check out the photos below for a look at that strike mission, as well as the action from our first few days at the Bali Pro.
