Billabong’s Tiago Pires at the Quiksilver Pro, Hossegor, France

Tiago Pires currently rated 30th on the ASP World Tour, came agonizingly close to advancing into Round 4 of the Quiksilver Pro at Les Estagnots, Hossegor, France today.  Pires was eliminated by Australian Ace Buchan in Round 3 despite opening the heat with a solid ride only to have Buchan make a late charge responding with his own high scores to take the win from Pires.  Leaving the event in equal 33rd placing Pires heads to the next stop in the ASP World Tour looking to keep the momentum in his favour.

The Quiksilver Pro France is the seventh of 11 events on the 2008 ASP World Tour and includes the world’s top 45 full-time touring male professional surfers plus three wildcards.  Commencing on September 19, 2008 and stretching until Sunday, September 28, 2008 the event has an eleven day waiting period but only requires four full days of surfing to complete.  Eight times ASP World Champion Kelly Slater leads the ASP World Tour ratings going into the event with the possibility of clinching an unprecedented Ninth ASP World Title should he win the event.
