Billabong Pro Tahiti: Day Two
High scores and long tube rides round out the second day of the Teahupoo contest.
The Billabong Pro Tahiti was an all day affair for day two with an 8 am local time start. The morning began with 4 heats left to be finished in round 1 with 4-6ft surf and improved wind conditions that had high scoring heats throughout the day.
The first heat of the morning saw Josh Kerr rack up a 9.67 for a lengthy backside tube that had him exiting over dry reef. Then John John Florence put on a clinic in the second to last heat of Round 1 with a side slip pull in that earned him a 9-point ride. John looks to be in form and will be going up against Gabriel Medina in round 3, one of the more highly anticipated heats of the whole event.
In round 3 the waves continued to pump and tour veteran CJ Hobgood earned the highest heat total of the day and the highest single wave of the day with a 9.80 in his win over Nat Young. For CJ it was a great win in his last year on tour. Brett Simpson followed CJ's American assault with a cracker of a heat in defeating Taj Burrow. Other great performances came from Bede Durbidge, Gabriel Medina, Jadson Andre, Adrian Buchan and Sebastian Zietz.
All of round 2 was finished and it's predicted that the wind will start to cooperate further and the swell direction will improve. Stay tuned for possible round 3 action tomorrow at 8am local time via worldsurfleague.com. Photos: Pat Stacy/ WSL
