Italo Ferreira Claims the Throne at the 2018 Corona Bali Protected
Get this man a yellow jersey.
Italo Ferreira reclaims the Jeep Leader Yellow Jersey, as his giant-slaying freight train never let up in Bali - charging through the competition on the way to winning his second event of the season.
"It was an unbelievable week…I’m just so happy. I just try to enjoy myself & enjoy the moment. It was an unbelievable heat against Michel - he’s so powerful & such a competitor…I can’t believe it, it’s just unreal.”
After coming up short in his first heat & taking second to defending Bali Pro champ, Joel Parkinson, Italo took care of business in Round 2 against Barron Mamiya and never looked back. His Round 4 heat vs. fellow Brazilian heavyweights Filipe Toledo & Adriano de Souza had it all - hacks, tubes, airs, fireworks...and Ferreira was once again able to come out on top.
With zero nerves & the backhand attack in full assault, Italo kept the storm rolling right along, getting past Jeremy Flores in the quarters, and stomping an absolutely mental aerial for a Perfect 10 & the semifinals victory over Jordy Smith.
That momentum carried him through the Corona Bali Protected final. Italo was an absolute weapon in his final heat with a 9.27 & 9.60, defeating a red-hot Michel Bourez on the shores of Keramas' black sand beach.
Italo will look to follow up this win with another strong effort down the coast at Uluwatu for the tour’s next stop, and if he wasn't yet on the boys' radar as a threat to win the World Title, he is now.
