Jake Halstead - 2013 North America Pro Junior ASP Champion
Jake Halstead is not your typical young professional surfer. He is a hard working, power surfing regularfoot from San Diego. And in just his third year competing on the North America Pro Junior series he is the Champ.
"It is a huge accomplishment for me," Halstead said. "This is the third year that I have been competing in the ASP Pro Junior series. My first year I qualified for the World Junior event at Keramas in Bali and that was a memorable event for me, but I did not get the result I wanted. So this year I really wanted to do well and qualify for Worlds. I am stoked on how the year has turned out so far."
Jake was sidelined at the start of the season with an ankle injury. But instead of letting it get him down, he got motivated. Through some serious rehab and a deep passion to compete Jake charged back full steam. Winning an event in Florida before making the Final in the Pro Jr. division at the US Open. Still, with momentum and skills, the title was not Halstead's until the last minute of his Quarterfinal heat at the East Coast Surfing Classic.
"Winning the series is definitely a confidence booster for me, but I do not want to let that get to my head," Halstead said. "Whether I placed first or fourth on the overall ratings, I am going to Brazil to win."
Jake has a bag of tricks as deep as any of his peers.
Training is one of Jake's strongest skill sets, here he is in the early morning 'light' of the US Open.
Power surfing regularfoot, not a bad combination.
