Joel and Taj Let Loose at Lowers
Round 1 of the Hurley Pro started yesterday with classic Lowers lines and 34 frothing men excited for the uncrowded heats.
Taj Burrow entered the water for the first heat of the day against Travis Logie and Ace Buchan. As luck would have it, the waves went slow and Taj was unable to find the waves needed to advance to Round 3. He will surf against Brett Simpson in Round 2.
Just three heats later Joel Parkinson got off to a slow start against Raoni Monteiro and Kai Otton, and it looked like another Billabong team rider was headed to Round 2. But Joel found a couple set waves and carved them with power and precision from the point to the cobblestones gathering to high scores and a ticket to Round 3.
With plenty of swell on the way starting Sunday, we are excited to see what Taj and Parko have planned.
The Trestles dance is no easy task, but Taj knows it well.
Give Joel an open face and he will give you a beautiful rail turn. No matter how many times you see him surf, it never gets old.
Taj surfed in a tough luck first heat, laying down good turns but finding too few waves.
#ParkoPower should start trending around the semis. For now he will surf in Round 3 when competition resumes.
Taj tossing tail but not getting the tally. Last year's champ will need to rebound in Round 2.
