The North Shore Blog - Joel and Mitch Take on Waimea
It was an easy call for the contest directors this morning, there was plenty of swell this morning, but it was coming from the wrong direction for Pipe. And although everyone was a bit bummed about the Billabong Pipe Masters lay day, when there is plenty of swell for the North Shore, somewhere should be working. And today, that somewhere was Waimea Bay, which sounded perfect to Uncle Joel and nephew Mitch.
Neither Joel or Mitch brought boards big enough for the Bay, but good friend Makua Rothman offered some loaners for the Parkinsons. After a long session mixed with great rides and a few tumbles, the boys called it a day. Scroll down for some photos from the day by Duncan Macfarlane.
Joel and Mitch assess the loaners they were about to take into 18 - 20 foot waves at Waimea Bay.
Jogging down the beach like it's another lap at Snappers.
Wonder where he gets the froth from?
Joel, deeper than everyone.
Mitch showing Uncle Joel he's not afraid of big barrels.
Just a touch different than Snapper Rocks, but Joel and Mitch were taking off deepest nonetheless.
